Student Poems

Fall

Archell Calhoun, Overbrook High School

Fall is finally here.

Watch out for the gentle leaves.

All will break.

Some Soldiers I Saw

David Schast, Central High School

Above the grass

Lies a man.

Above his head

bugs.

Beside a man

Lay a gun.

Inside his head

a slug.

Down the street

Lies a man.

Down the street

another.

Beside one man

Broken glass.

Fear

inside the other.

Escape

Juliet Williams, Central High School

I thought I was young and free,

but now,

now I am only

an empty cage.

Time,

you stole the animal

within me.

Untitled

Rachel Stein, Masterman High School

I hate

strolling

with the gorgeous women

on high-heels

wearing mink

and I hate

how much they know

about

me.
